Go Go Laser Chicken!
I’ve been pretty consumed lately, when not healing raids, with preparing Sylly to jump into dual specs with both feet. I posted recently about how much fun I find playing Boomkin. But soloing dailies as an owlbeast in all my healing gear just won’t cut it when 3.1 goes live. Although I am my guild’s only raiding tree at the moment and we have 3 boomkins, you never know when I’ll be called on to trade bark for feathers and step into the fray. Here’s what I’ve been doing to get ready…
1) Reading Boomkin blogs. I have learned so much at great sites like Foofy’s Cupcake Factory , Restokin, and Gray Matter. I’ve also been keeping an eye when I can spare it on the boomkin threads at Elitist Jerks and the Official WOW forums. Foofy had a GREAT video series up recently that taught me an awful lot of what I need to know about Boomkins.
2) Working on my Boomkin gear. Yes, it’s true that we trees share many stats with the owl set. But different enchants and gems help us, and I’ve needed to work on getting some +hit in my life, too, so I don’t just miss everything I try to nuke. I’ve been saving my badges or spending them here and there on upgrades for my Boomkin set.
3) Stashing away things for when dual spec comes -- I’ve farmed and made some crit food lately, and purchased boomkin glyphs, just waiting for the day…
4) Planning out my spec -- I’ll be ready to roll when I train dual spec and can quickly throw up the spec I’ve worked out.
5) Running heroics -- I’ve run several heroics with guildies in boomkin form lately. Holy Jehosephat that is fun stuff! I’ve been practicing the spell rotations I’ve learned about, working on getting a feel for them so that I am gtg.
6) Updating my UI -- I’ve downloaded a couple of addons to help me out when I need to switch to boomkin, most importantly Squawk and Awe.
7) Watching Chris Farley on SNL -- lol I watched this the other day just to fully capture the spirit of the Boomkin dance! woot!!!

You know, ever since I heard about dual specs I’ve been thinking about how cool it’d be to have a shadow spec. I’ve been saving gear, not looking at the shadow tree in the least. But now that I think about it, I don’t know that I want to do it. I’ve never ever ever been shadow. 80 levels, 40+ days of being holy. I feel like I’d be betraying myself and the time and patience I spent being holy all this time. Know what I’m sayin? We’ll see though, we’ll see.
awww, Hummy =) lol it’s true how much you sacrificed to be Holy. I remember back when we were leveling in STV and you would sneeze and aggro everything within 150 yards. It was spooky.
I think I’m a tree at heart, but above that, I’m a druid, and druids iterate as moonkin, too! Healing will always be my primary relationship to Sylly, but boomkin is just more fun than you should be able to have with your clothes on! lol! I’m looking forward to having immediate access to both!
We only have three boomkins? Sure seems like a lot more than that sometimes. I think we had 6 druids in the last raid, most of the boomkins, and there was one noticable boomkin absence!
Squawk and Awe. Gonna have to pass that one on. I know someone who might like that. ;^)
Oh, and one thing to remember: when you spec out for Boomkin (now or after 3.1), make sure you take Improved Faerie Fire. We rogues *really* like that one! =^)
lol you got it, Night. I think there are 3 boomkin… Karley, Zaydie and Alather. 2 Bears – Elathan, Liquidnight. 1 Kitteh – Bloodflowers. 1 tree – yours truly.
